Community Participation BBQ & Lunch

In the spirit of fostering community, last weekend was a truly special moment at our Supported Independent Living House (SIL) in Wantirna South — an inclusive lunch and barbecue event dedicated to our community organised by our NDIS approved partner, Care Services Australia. Our spacious backyard transformed into a lively gathering space, creating an inviting atmosphere for a day filled with shared moments and genuine connections.

The diversity of our community was on full display, and it was heartening to witness new friendships forming and the beauty of inclusivity being celebrated. Conversations flowed freely, reflecting the openness and warmth that defined the day. The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the delicious lunch. Aromas of grilling delights filled the air as our skilled chefs prepared a variety of treats. The menu catered to different dietary preferences, ensuring that everyone could relish the flavours of the day. Sharing a meal became a powerful symbol of unity, reminding us of the joy found in communal dining.

As plates were passed around, conversations deepened, and meaningful connections were formed. We shared our experiences, stories, and aspirations, creating a space where everyone felt heard and valued. The event underscored the unique yet interconnected journeys within our Supported Independent Living House community.

Looking ahead, this lunch and barbecue event are just the beginning of our commitment to fostering a strong, supportive community. As we approach the holiday season, anticipate more events and activities that celebrate the diversity and resilience of our community. Follow us on social media for updates on upcoming gatherings, and join us in continuing to build a community that supports and uplifts every individual.

The lunch and barbecue for the disability community in our Supported Independent Living House weren’t just about the food; they were a celebration of unity, inclusion, and shared experiences. As we continue to nurture these connections, we’re reminded of the strength that comes from embracing our differences and building a community that truly supports and uplifts every individual.

I would also like to express my gratitude to our partner, Care Services Australia, for choosing Yarra House, our SIL accommodation to host this wonderful event. This wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support of our dedicated staff and volunteers. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us.
